Eat, drink and take pictures. Where, in Sea Point, can you sit outside in an open air courtyard and sip on beautifully designed cocktails in the summer sun? The Press Bar & Grill, the definition of ‘hidden gem’, is the perfect spot for a little Sunday day-drinking, especially for some 2-for-1 cocktails in the urban heart of the Mother City. The Entertainer asked us to visit this great inner-city gastropub.
I worked on the ground in the restaurant industry for 10 years, so I know a little bit about making food magic. I’m a self proclaimed foodie. Albeit a vegetarian foodie – food obsessed nonetheless. Luckily, my meat-loving partner enjoys experimenting with new places as much as I do, so we always get a good overall feeling of a venue.
I was completely obsessed with the decor as we walked through the restaurant to head into the open air courtyard. I felt like I was looking around like a school girl in an art gallery. True Instagram heaven! #ihavethisthingwithfloors would have a field day. From the beautifully decorated threshold, to the tiled hallway that’s echoed on the menu design, to the herb garden that sat at the head of our community style table. Just lovely. There’s definitely an up-cycled, vintage feeling running through the restaurant, with a fresh hipster take on the design and style.
Chad, the manager suggested the Spicy Mango Daiquiri. Chad, the manager, was not wrong. Not your traditional fruity, frozen drink – the kick of fresh green chili is a refreshing cleanser and the perfect twist on a classic. The cocktail menu is next level! So many amazing choices – I’m not sure how you’re meant to choose. Although, saying that, we did do a round of Lemon Pepper (Gin) Martinis too, because, well, why not?!
The Press Bar & Grill food menu is pretty elaborate, too. Tapas, burgers and some delicious looking salads. I’m a total chili popper fanatic, so that was a must for me to try out, and the boys ordered some meaty treats from the signature selections. Those gourmet burgers are magical. I have to say, I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t see the vegetarian burger on the menu, but now I’m going to have to go back to try it out.
