Kloof Street has to be one of the hippest, trendiest places to head for a ‘foodies day out’ in the Cape Town CBD. Here are our Top 5 choices if you’re looking for a cool spot to eat in the city.
*UPDATE: Since this article published, sadly, YUZU has closed it’s doors.
Yuzu Kitchen & Bar is the one of the hotspots of the moment in the city. The quirky ‘Kill Bill’ kung-fu themed restaurant, situated on Kloof Street, has brought modern Asian fusion cuisine to Cape Town, and taking things to another level. Revenge may be best served cold – but ramen needs to be piping hot. I have a mild obsession with fusion foods, so this ‘American-Japanese’ place in the trendy part of town is a must for me.
I don’t have any previous ramen experiences to compare it to – but the food was great. I loved to see a tofu ramen of the menu (although, if you’re a vegetarian, remember to request your egg to be non-Scotched if you’re a fan or to hold the egg entirely, unlike me, who forgot).

YOURS TRULY is a one of those places that have the charm of a small cafe, but filled with the energy of the big city, and definitely known as one of the favourite (not so) hidden gems of Cape Town. Situated in one of my top Cape Town hotspots, the cafe by day is shrouded in a leafy canopy of lanky Jacaranda trees, and a clear patio-roof with the cutest ferns and hanging baskets.
The menu is littered with ‘Design Your Own’ options, where you pick your staple – either a bread, a wrap or pizza base – and add the toppings of your choice. And the choices are endless. An Instagrammers paradise.

YUM! As soon as you mention ‘Jerry’s‘ to any millennial in the Cape Town area, I kid you not, the first thing that comes out peoples mouth is ‘Have you had those Cheese Bombs?‘! Without a doubt, the best appetizers on the market. Personally, I’m a little obsessed. There are also Sea Point, Observatory, Willowbridge and Blouberg branches.
Apart from their killer appetizers, Jerry’s is super well known for their stuffed, gourmet burgers, where to ‘toppings’ are packed inside the patty. The service is awesome, the portions are well sized and the food is absolutely delicious!

Whether you dine alfresco in the fairly-lit garden oasis or inside the converted Victorian home with its eccentric bohemian mix of décor, you’ll be treated to a luxury beautiful eating experience in the heart of the hustle and bustle of one of Cape Town’s coolest streets.
Enjoy a signature cocktail in the garden, or treat yourself to a three-course dinner. The hidden gem, that is Kloof Street House is said to be a melting pot of cultures of food. The steaks and the game comes highly recommended. The desserts are to die for – and the Salted Caramel Cheesecake is well worth the visit.
