Tucked away in Nature’s Gateway, this charming location is the perfect spot between the magical Kruger National Park (short drive to Phabeni Gate) and the world-famous Panaramic Route with Blyde River Canyon, Gods Window, and Pilgrims Rest just a bit away.
We arrived to the most welcoming accommodation I’ve ever been to. It felt like home as soon as we walked in. The Windmill was recently (read: ‘sometime in the last year’) taken over by new management, and they are working their magic on their country retreat. Brandon and Danielle Smith, from the locally acclaimed Shinzelle Safaris, have put their heart and soul into giving The Windmill that family home feeling, and giving guests that ultimate Africa experience – right from the daily Kruger National Park safari activities down to those delicious, hot, home-cooked 3 course buffet dinner to come back to at night.
Our free standing, spacious country cottage was perfect for our nights’ stay. Kitted out with a little tea & coffee station inside, and a deck overlooking the breathtaking Valley, our cottage was wonderful and welcoming after a long day in the hot African Bush. Waking up to Vervet Monkeys playing in the rustling trees, and birds welcoming the new day in song. We LOVED our piping hot cup of tea on our private balcony-patio and even had a ‘good morning’ welcome from a Skint who had made the natural wall of our cottage his home. Although we’re no ‘City-Slickers’, at The Windmill, you know you’re in Africa – and it’s just amazing!
If you don’t already know, Hazyview is a HUB for adventure activities! There is SO much to do (which we have linked a pretty cool list here) but we haven’t had the time to explore the area property because, on this trip, we were stopping by after an incredible ‘safari’ day in the Kruger, and we were having a family dinner in Hazyview that night – making The Windmill that haven we needed instead of heading all the way back to White River in the dark.
