YUM! As soon as you mention ‘Jerry’s‘ to any millennial in the Cape Town area, I kid you not, the first thing that comes out peoples mouth is ‘Have you had those Cheese Bombs?‘! Without a doubt, the best appetizer on the market. Personally, I’m a little obsessed. Jerry’s Burger Bar opened up a couple of years ago – and I cannot believe what I was missing out on!
My first experience was fantastic. I had been wanting to visit for ages. A friend of mine decided that was THE place to be on a Friday evening in the CBD. All the tables were fully booked (a good sign!) so the sweet waitress seated her at an inside-table, which was perfect. I was running late, of course. It was a little muggy inside, late December in Cape Town can do that to you though, but all the windows were open, fanning us down. We ordered a bottle of my favourite wine, and asked the waitress for recommendations – to which she replied – “Have you had those Cheese Bombs? They are to die for”. And that was that. Done. Steph ordered a stuffed burger (the ‘toppings’ are packed inside the patty!) and I added some chili-popper jalapeño bites to my ‘bombs’. The food arrived quickly, and was absolutely delicious! The portions are well sized, and after my two starters, I was full-full.
When my boyfriend and I found ourselves feeling peckish after wine tasting one Saturday afternoon, the first place that popped into my head for some good afternoon snacks was Jerry’s. And considering, we were in Constantia, that’s saying something. We arrived, and were quickly seated outside. They had sprayers going, to cool the guests down, which was very welcome on a 32 degree day. I was skeptical about whether I would have another excellent experience – and boy, was that doubt thrown out very quickly. Our waiter was great, the food was fast and the drinks were ice cold! Cheese Bombs were a must again, and Gustav does love chili-poppers, so we grabbed some of those too. Just another great experience.
