In search of Nguni cows, something delicious to snack on and a good cup of tea to warm us up, we stumbled upon a true gem of the famous #MidlandsMeander. Granny Mouse Country House & Spa is nestled in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, and is known for it’s perfect combination relaxation and luxury. We didn’t have long to stay and unwind in the toasty, fire-heated lounge, but we certainly had a good experience while we were there.
The lounge had a feeling of home. Like when you visit our grandparents for the first time in a while, and you just know you’re in a happy place – warm, well fed and surrounded by love. They had all my favourite quick-snacks on offer – Chili Poppers, Crumbed Mushrooms (but sadly out of stock of both) and a huge portion of piping hot Curried Potato Springrolls, which I really enjoyed with the fresh, chili mayo dipping sauce. The girls enjoyed homemade baked goods – a decadent Chocolate Brownie, and a fresh Scone served with farm-style Raspberry Jam. All washed down with a variety of tea choices and a monster cappuccino.
As I mentioned, we didn’t have much time to spare, but we had a short walk around the venue, and in the very cute gardens. The view from upstairs at the Eaves Restaurant is breathtaking. Standing on the balcony, you overlook the seemingly never ending, rolling hills of the KZN Midlands, which on our visit were covered in a heavy layer of cool mist. The cottages look like something out of a fairy tale, all thatched and surrounded by bright, blossoming flowers. I almost excepted to see Snow White faffing around the houses. But alas. Only a few (very cute) Vervet Monkeys.
