Bistro Sixteen82 at Steenberg Farm is the place to see and be seen on a Saturday morning in the Southern Suburbs. Brunch with the best of the best of Cape Town in the heart of the Steenberg Estate and Vineyards, situated at the foothills of the Constantiaberg. Enjoy bistro style dining and high-end tapas, while sipping on some of the countries most loved wines.
The Constantia Valley is oldest wine producing region in South Africa, with Steenberg Farm being the oldest Cape farm, having been established in 1682. With nine award winning farms in the region, churning out international quality wines. The valley has been as to be called the ‘cradle of quality wine making in South Africa’ and is famous for producing wines enjoyed by Napoleon Bonaparte and his 18th century royals.
I ran in to my meet-up a little later than planned and just managed to get my breakfast order in. Our waiter was very patient with me as I quickly picked something that caught my eye, and ordered our first bottle of Steenberg Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc for the day. What’s brunch without something sparkling to drink, right?
We were started off with some complimentary Honey Drenched Brioche. I don’t usually eat honey, but it was so sweet and creamy, I was certain it was more of a butterscotch sauce, and I lapped it all up. Our beautiful brunch table consisted off a classic-style Eggs Benedict, with a monster cut of Bacon 1682, and a wonderful vegetarian Mushroom Benedict, without the Poached Eggs, both served on crispy Potato Rostis. Looking back at the menu, there was another two vegetarian options I could have picked too. We kept the Bubbles flowing, and later moved onto the patio to bask in the sunshine.
I have visited the Steenberg Vineyards Wine Tasting Bar before, and experienced the Flagship Wine Tasting. 4 Amazing wines, and a MCC. Our wine host gave us two extra tasters, as he said they were a ‘must’ to really experience the full Steenberg range.
Executive Chef, Kerry Kilpin has been quoted saying “My greatest inspirations are derived from significant occasions in my life. You will notice a common thread in what I do and who I am. Love. I cook with love and my food is love.” And that reflects in every plate coming out of that kitchen.
Bon Appétit!
