Looking for that perfect, juicy burger to satisfy that hungry? But you don’t eat meat, right? That’s not a problem! Cape Town is full of awesome places that serve incredible plant-based burgers that will hit the spot! Here are our Top 5 favourite vegetarian burgers in Cape Town.
HUDSON’S BURGER JOINT
You know, without a doubt, I can actually say this with pride – Hudsons Burgers may have some of the best food I’ve ever tasted at a fast-food style restaurant. I mean, I’m a sucker for anything cheesy and deep-fried, but there’s actually something for everyone at the trending Cape Town restaurant. Health conscience? No problem. Vegetarian? No problem! Vegan? NO PROBLEM! From the starters, to the burgers to sides and even desserts. They have you covered! I absolutely love The Stack Burger, and don’t forget to order your sides – love those Sweet Potato chips and the Disco Fries.
THE HUNGRY HERBIVORE
100% vegan and 100% delicious! The ‘Oh Sweet Kim Burger’ is definitely a vegetarian meal you have to try out when visiting Cape Town CBD. Situated in the heart of the City, The Hungry Herbivore is a must for any foodie. Serving only plant-based foods, the venue offers everything – from a full ‘English Breakfast’ to tasty Deluxe Burgers to the most incredible range of vegan cakes and sweet treats.
CAFÉ ROUX
I think what I love about this spot the most is that everything is made in-house – from the sauces, to the chutneys to breads. Could it get any fresher? The Vegan Burger at Café Roux in The Noordhoek Farm Village is the food of legends – Crumbed Aubergine with Vegan Herb Mayo (made with almond milk) and Tomato Relish served with Fries. It even reads beautifully! This picture-perfect burger will make anyone’s lunch a dream. Treat yourself to a slice of the banting Flourless Chocolate Cake after lunch!
STOEP AND SWING
When you’re in the Deep South, a visit to the Stoep and Swing is a ‘have-to-do’! Their bar snack menu is out of this world – and they are all about serving quality at really good prices. So you’re getting value for money every time. Sit out on the deck, looking onto Glencairn Beach, right over the magnificent False Bay. Order the Vegetarian Burger, which is served with Tzakiki and the Hand-Cut Potato Chips and be blown away. The Chicken Strips are a local favourite, too. Local Tip – Ask the barman for the Draught of the Day as they often have great deals on local beers.
WHOLE EARTH CAFÉ
If you’re heading down to Cape Point for the day, you have to stop into the bang-on-trend Whole Earth Café in Scarborough. They provide food that is ‘true to nature, promoting a healthier lifestyle, using only the freshest ingredients’ and they have got it SO right! The food is just delicious. They also aim to be organic and source locally wherever possible. The Bagel Veggie Burger with Vegan Cashew Nut Cream Cheese, Tomato Chutney and Basil Pesto is a great meal. Enjoy your lunch with a Green Machine Juice and leave feeling fresher than ever.
