There’s just something about ordering multiple dishes and sharing with the table. Now, I know that this is some peoples idea of hell at the dinner table – BUT nothing brings people closer together over dinner than sharing a couple of beautifully prepared dishes, and discussing. Small plate dining is bang on trend – in all the right ways. Here are our top 5 places in Cape Town to enjoy a tapas style meal with friends.
Watch the sunset over the Camps Bay strip while sitting in the heart of one of the hippest Summer spots in the city. La Parada Camps Bay, on of the small group of restaurants, situated just 10 minutes outside the Cape Town CBD is definitely a place to see and be seen all year round! The décor is on point, and the small-plate food is so very beautifully presented! Pork Belly is said to be a winner, and the marinated olives are great for a healthier snack. You also HAVE to order a side of Patatas Bravas! Although fairly pricey – the experience makes it well worth the money spent!
CHEFS WAREHOUSE AT BEAU CONSTANTIA
This is five star dining all the way! Possibly my TOP tapas / small plate dining experience in South Africa?! Chef’s Warehouse at Beau Constantia is an absolute must when visiting Cape Town. Nestled in the back nook of Constantia Neck, the ever-so boutique Beau Constantia is the most modern of all the local farms. Visit for either a fantastic dinner, or a slow, easy going lunch. Don’t forget to pair your meal with a wine from the farm. The Lucca is incredible (if they have it in stock). This place takes dining in The Mother City to another level!

These people know how to keep the customers coming back for more – time and time again. This independent, small plate restaurant is bang on trend – in all the right ways. Salt, Kalk Bay. is a great spot to unwind after work, on your way home. Pick it as your romantic, hot-date venue for the evening and sip red wine in the candle light, or enjoy a tapas style meal with friends.

Now, I know that this is some peoples idea of hell at the dinner table – BUT nothing brings people closer together over dinner than sharing a couple of beautifully prepared dishes, and discussing. Small plate dining is right up there on my favorite things to do, so when a friend and I visited Saveur Restaurant in Simon’s Town for lunch – we chose an easy, laid-back dining experience and picked some of the best looking tapas-style dishes to share. The Butternut and Mozzarella Arancini was a winner!
