We’ve all been looking for that one miracle product, right? We want it to be a quick, easy fix to all our problems and make us look radiant and rested? Well, I think I might have found it. dermalogica has added a new baby to the family – the brand new Sound Sleep Cocoon is a light, overnight transformative gel-cream that works to restore, brighten and hydrate your skin while you get a really good night’s sleep.
I’ll throw in a nice little disclaimer before I even go a word further – I’m all about a real, truthful review – BUT if I really don’t like a product, I’d rather not review it than slander something that someone (no matter how big or small the brand is) has spent months or years developing online, just because I have the platform to do so – kinda of like if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything? Not saying I don’t appreciate an real, honest review (because that’s the whole point of being a blogger, and following bloggers, isn’t it?) – but I would always prefer to see, and I certainly respond better to, proper, constitutive feedback rather than just voicing your opinion because you have one. And the same totally goes for people giving the ‘double-thumbs up’ to products the absolutely hated – what’s the point? No shade thrown, just be real to the people who look up to you.
Now that we’ve covered all of that… let’s get back into the review, shall we.
I grew up with very troubled skin. I’ve had a hate-hate relationship with acne and fighting ‘the good skin cause’ most of my life – from realizing I had a problem at 11 to starting a serious course of Roaccutane treatment at 15, and then having to continue again at 18, and again with the generic version, Oratane due to a financial crunch (no difference to the original one, just like half the price! Would really recommend if not on medical aid), at 24 – my skin has taken a serious hit. After my acne cleared up, I’ve been left with fairly scared skin on my face – which can be removed with a chemical skin peel – but let’s be honest, that idea is scary! But in the last three or so years, my skin has suddenly seemed to remember it needs to age (and those scars are still there) and I’m seeing the side effects from those years of hardcore Vitamin A treatments starting to play a role on my skin.
I’m not even joking when I say I noticed a difference after one night of using this product, and after two weeks of using it – I can’t ever see myself not using this product. I am in love. I noticed the small, fine lines around my mouth have probably reduced by half, and the tiny scars & the pours on my nose & forehead have almost vanished. Obviously it can’t wipe away 15 years of damage in two weeks – but I’m expecting great results long term. My skin has never felt softer and cleaner and it’s just giving me confidence and a radiance that I haven’t felt in ages – and above all, I’m sleeping like a rock!
So, it’s super easy to use – and it smells INCREDIBLE! Applied as the last part of your ‘before bed routine, after washing, toning and moisturizing, you use two pumps of the gel cream, rub into between your finger tips, smooth over your face and neck, on top of all your other usual products and massage into the skin to activate. And then take a couple of seconds to breathe in the beautiful essential oils to kick starts those sleep hormones. The Sound Sleep Cocoon also works to lock in all the moister from your other products, and acts as a barrier to protect your skin from dirt creeping in in the night. Obviously, there’s a lot of technical aspects to know about – and not being a dermatologist or skin scientist – I’ll just leave that up to the professionals.
I’m love the smells of lavender, sandalwood and patchouli (definitely has a soft, light lemon smell in there too?) that all work together to get me that good night’s sleep. Gustav says it makes me smell like freshly cut flowers and that I look ‘bright and glowy’ – so, I guess it gets his stamp of approval too.
As I said, I’m very much in awe of this product and expecting great things from it over time. So, will have to check in after the product is finished!
